WOW plans to launch Veteran Edition for f2p
Last week, Patch 6.1 PTR datamining revealed that something called “Veteran” mode has been datamined, and it aims to bring back more lapsed accounts. But this mode is more Start Edition than Veteran one, because of its restrictions.
Similarly with a Starter Edition account, heroes in Veteran accounts can only reach level 20 and collect a maximum of 10 world of warcraft gold. Besides, the social communication is also limited, such as modifying calendar events, shouting, and whispering to players not in the Veteran's friends list. The only difference for Veteran Edition is that your sub-level 20 characters will be able to join a guild if any of your other characters are still in that guild.
What’s more, Veteran mode will simply be the default state for accounts that don’t currently have an active subscription.
Will Blizzard make profits subscriptions to change?
Recently, an overwhelming part of players speculate that World of Warcraft will be turned into free to play from P2P, especially in China, for the sake of money from subscriptions to change.
